  • If other properties on you street have converted lofts the likelihood is you can have one to but check to be sure.
  • Your local council can help with this.
  • Remember, planning permission on it’s own can add value to your property

Know what you want

  • A loft conversion is not just for show, it is an investment
  • Ensure you keep the quality of fittings high
  • Sky lights, dorma windows etc are all features which need to be considered however include electrical points you may need and any plumbing.
  • Make the conversion seamless. Consider modelling your stair case to much the rest of the property. It all adds value.
  • Plan to decorate in your own style but remember you want your loft to appear as part of the house not an add on.

Essential Regulations

  • Any good Roofer / Builder should know these
  • If your loft is to be used as a living space it needs to be classed as one
  • Ensure it has a proper staircase, windows and meets fire and building regulations.
  • An agent will not be able to class this space as anything other than a storage room if the regulations are not adhered to
  • If they get it wrong, very little value will be added.
